Octave Rooftop Bar
Another quick Thailand update. This was November 30. We went to Octave which is a really beautiful rooftop bar in Bangkok. Some things that make this rooftop bar so incredible include
1. The view. A lot of roof top bars are "roof top" but not building top and have some sort of thing sticking out of the center that goes higher or have some sort of interior space that has it's own roof (admittedly only 9 feet up) but something that is in the center. Octave doesn't have this meaning you have a truly 360 view with literally nothing to block the view in the center of the roof. It is breathtaking
2. No reservations required. Something really amazing about Thailand to me is that they can do something like this, you go up without a reservation and order a drink. You can get a standing table in 5 minutes and they'll move your party to a seated table within 15 minutes or so. We had no reservation and were able to head on up. Of course getting a reservation means that you get nicer tables (comfier, closer to the edge, quicker) but like I said this is a REAL 360 view (not one that you have to walk around some center edifice to see) so the table location meant nothing to us. Additionally the center tables are higher up and the outer tables are lower down as they are next to the glass edge and shouldn't be up on bar stools anyway so everyone's got a great view.
3. Somehow this bar categorizes your group and makes sure you're in line for a table. They never took our names or anything but we got a table presumable before anyone who got there after us and after anyone who got there before us. I think they silently mark, describe, and number people as they order. So that was cool
4. Cheap! This bar is incredibly cheap. If you go before 7pm (its a roof top bar and sunset is like 6pm or so.. of course you go before 7pm) drinks are half price meaning my cocktail was like 250 baht ($7) we planned horribly and missed sunset but for $7 I got seats and a drink at an amazing roof top bar. We even got peanuts at our table lol

Honestly I was really hoping to have made it to more roof top bars than just a few but oh well. I had a great time and it's not something I regret. There were so many beautiful and amazing places to see all over SE Asia and I wouldn't change my trip for a minute. I do have an affinity for them though, either for the view or just feeling fancy, I hope to go to many more!
A bit about that day, we were supposed to have a few more guys in the group but Thomas was sick, Gaston out of town, and Felix just bailed so poor Justus had to just deal with us girls for a few hours. We went for all you can eat sushi at our all time favorite place afterwards and then Justus took a well deserved break from our singing and just from being the only guy. We had a great time and even though we missed the sunset, the view was well worth it.
And just to clarify the name of the bar isn't octave like in music. It's a french and kinda uppity sounding Oct-ahve. Or at least we called it that.
